sportsman 400 front hubs???
Can anyone help me out? My '01 SP 400 sometimes pulls to the right when or after braking...but the brakes don't seem to be
dragging. it has about 1200 miles on it, and the pads are still about 1/2 left. I pulled off the front wheels, found the right front
hub seems to turn harder than the left, and felt the same even after pring back the brake pads so they wouldn't drag (they
moved easily). I also just noticed that the front tires are 25" and the rear are 26"...is that a problem? I drained the front
hub fluid from both sides, and the fluid looked okey but a little darker than new oil. when I turn the hubs they seem to have
"tight spots" in them, and the rf gets gets about 5x harder to turn than the left. Has anyone had this problem before???
I would appreciate anyones help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Polaris states that you must run the same diameter tires on both front and rear. Rotational speed difference is what causes the front hubs to lock in. The difference in rolling speed between 25" and 26" is about 10%. I've read that a 20% difference will kick in 4-wheel.
It's possible that the front hubs have been trying to kick in a lot more than normal and something in the locking mechanism is worn or roughed up.
Another thing to look at is the torque setting on the front spindle nut. There is a peculiar sequence for tightening that nut. If it is too tight, the hub will be harder to turn, and could catch instead of rolling smoothly.
Finally, worn bearings could cause the same problem.

sportsman 400 front hubs???
hey guys, well I took apart the front hubs today, and found they were only very dirty, oil was dark, m somegrime inside, but no scoring
or other damage to the bearings or roller clutches. these hubs are very simple!!! all I did was clean up all the parts, reassemble both front hubs and filled with new hub oil. They both spin freely now and work fine. As for the pull to the right, I found the caliper pins also
full of grime, and dry-just had to clean them up and apply new caliper grease to the pins-all fixed!!! stops straight and no more hanging
up brakes. makes me want to take apart the calipers on my sp 600 with 300 miles on it and lube them also. Just thought this info might
be helpful.
