ok. if you haven't taken the clutch apart , this shouldn't be loose. if you was to take the prim. clucth cover off, you see the nut. now if for some reason this has come loose, that would be bad. if you don't have a polaris primary clutch puller, it would be had to get the clutch off. is your 500 sluggish off the line? w/ polaris, you need to keep the clutches clean to get the best preformance esp. if you get alot on dirt or belt dust.

It is not sluggish off the line. It will outrun my buddys 03 500 ho to about 30 but it gets to high 40's and dies. It seems like motor is tuned properly. I am going to check the nut. Just one more Question about the nut. Is this the spider lock nut that we are refering to? It is the only nut behind the clutch cover that I can remember. Thanks for the help
Thanks

What you are referring to is called the limiting nut #8 on the top diagram. If this backs off it will do just that, limit the movement of the clutch. The only knowledge I have about this is that the heelclicker clutch kit replaces the plastic nut with a metal one that is a little thinner. Thats about all the info I can give you, good luck finding the problem.

with the clutch gaurd off the machine while in neutral rev the engine up and watch the clutches. the prim. should close the belt up to all most all the way to the top. the sec. should do the opposite off of the front at the same time. if they don't open or close all the way when you rev up to 1/4 to 1/2 throttle then there is something wrong.
