Default gas overflow/dripping on a '02 sp500 ??

was wondering if anyone else has had it happen where you're filling up your sportsman at a gas station and didn't overflow it up at the top by the cap, but then notice gas dripping from underneath. Looked like it was coming out of the steering post? Is there some overflow tube routed down that post to exit out the bottom of the quad? It's happeneed to me twice now. The first time, I crawled under there in the station and saw a black hose that had a cut in it , and thought it was coming from there, so we taped it up with some electrical tape (next best thing after duct tape). Upon looking at it closer after getting back to the cabin, it looked like that hose was just some sort of breather coming off the top of the external oil tank, so it didn't seem the source of the dripping gas afterall. What do you think? Thanks

Don't know about your bike, but on my explorer there's a vent tube coming off the tank, between the seat and the cap, right next to the gas cap. Its @ 1/8" in diameter, see through, yellowish colour and runs up under the plastic tank cover and up into the light pod then down into the steering column. Mine rubbed from turning for the last 6 years against the clip that secures it under the pod and actually sprung a leak (Replaced it). Sometimes when you fill your bike to much or if your hill climbing on a full tank, it lets gas out.

you can see it here:
