SP 600 noises
I have a 2003 sportsman 600 with 120 miles. Under the following conditions I hear alot of clatter type noise coming from the transmission.
1. Going down a slight grade and using a little throtle to maintain steady speed.
2. Coasting my speed down while applying partial throttle.
I can live with the other strange noises... But this is to much. Anyone else expirience this or similar problems.

I have all of the same going on. I have 500 miles on my 03 600 and it really can make some funny noises at slow speeds. I have heard it is normal though so I guess we have to get used to it. I am really starting to miss all of those grease fittings also. It's getting pretty sqeaky.

Hey everyone... thanks for the info. Sounds like I don't have anything to worry about. Before this machine I had a 425 magnum. Other than keeping three chains adjusted, that was one smooth ride. This sp 600 is a bit jumpy. It starts out a little harsh... I'm guessing that is to eliminate belt slippage. The revs build up a bit and then it bites. For slow putsing in the woods it doesn't seem to have the torque and slow speed control of the 425 or sp 500. Low gear gets used more now than it used to. Screems in the wide open spaces though.

Hello Trestlenet,
I am about to purchase a 2004 Sp600. I test drove it and the engine has good ''pop'' (more than the 500HO which I was considering as well). Happy to hear you seem to like the machine. I usually go for long rides, 200+ miles a crack, so I guess I will enjoy the Sp600's comfort and smoothness at cruising to high speeds.
