Lots of people have tried it and wothout success. Painting the plastic will not hold up if you do any woods riding. The paint has to bond to the plastic and be flexable. If you lightly sand the plastic and have it painted with a flexable auto paint like what they use on plastic bumpers then it might hold up better but as soon as it chips it will slowly chip and peel off. You might want to check your local autobody shop to see what they suggest. It might cost just as much as new plastics.

I haven't ever tried painting atv fenders before, but if you're going to attempt it you must use a paint that actually chemically bonds to it rather than just sticks. An interior paint made by SEM (i think) is supposed to be great on plastic and you use a adhesion prep on it that actually chemically softens (melts) the plastic before painting so it really bonds well. Marhyde also used to make an amazing interior paint that chemically bonded as well, but i don't know if it's still produced. My dad used to use the stuff to dye motorcycle seats when he had a kawasaki shop, and the stuff never wore off...and it worked the same on plastic as it did on vinyl.
just some stuff to think about.

If you want to cover large areas of plastic instead of paint or stickers
you can go to your local sign or banner shop and see if they will sell
youi a large piece of vinyl. Its they same stuff they use to make decals
for signs that go on cars or trucks. I got a piece from a local shop in my
hometown that was 18 x 120 inches for $10 bucks! It sticks pretty good.
Mines been on for over a year!

ATV plastic is made from polyethelene automotive plastics are made from polypropelene for the most part. you can paint P.P. with the use of achemical adhesion promoter. there is nothing on the market that works 100% on P.E. So far the best method I have found for ATV plastic is to sand it with an orbital sander with 80grit sandpaper yhen prime the hell out of it to smooth it up that way you have a mechanical adhesion. And no the stuff from KRYLON doesnt stick to P.E.
