After a ride today, I noticed some grease around my front cv-joint on my Polaris. Upon further inspection, I noticed a hairline crack in the boot. The boot is less than a year old. I have a set of oxlite cv joint guards on. Some people say that they cause mud and rocks to build up and rub on the boot. Are boots more prone to tearing because of the oxlite guards? Do aftermarket boots last longer than stock? Thanks for the input.

I too have Oxlite guards and have noticed accumulation on the guard. The best thing to do is rake the debri off the guard when it becomes too much.Problem solved. You must not clean your quad very often, because it takes a while for a lot to accumulate;even when riding in mud.

I bought a nice set (I guess--they are all the same pretty much) for about $50 a year ago. I only left them on for a few weeks. They caused both my left and right to tear.

I did regulary clean them too. It's just that in thick brush, it only takes a few sticks to set on the plate to tear it.

One of the best ways to go is putting the guards off a stock Sportsman 500 on there. They leave it free to clean, and do a fair job of stopping sticks.

Without any guards, except the small stock ones, I haven't torn any boots.
