Default top speed varies?...sp700

hey lovemud, i may have found the problem with mine. the carb vent tube that's under the seat was blocked off, i repostioned it. i'll be testing it this weekend at camp. my buddies on the other hand, seems to have a different prob. he said sometimes the tach was reading 6500rpm's ,or something like that, while it was running the slower speeds. but on the faster speeds it was running about 5800. i was thinking maybe it wasn't upshifting all the way. he's gonna be tinkering tonight with the clutching.

If you are getting close to hitting top RPM, then its in your clutch, otherwise look towards the engine (carb, airfilter, carb intake boot, spark plugs, ignition, etc)

I seem to recall a post about there being (or should be) a filter on the end of that vent tube to prevent stuff from finding its way into the carb. If that tube is blocked the machine won't run right. ( I keep forgetting to check my own machine to see if it has one or not).

The other machine sounds like a good candidate for a loose plastic stop nut on the spider as 700 at Washington mentioned.
