a good cheap place to do top end near harpers ferry, wv
this goes back to my previous thread about doing the top end on a 96 scramber 400. if i decide not to attemp it myself does anyone know of a good reasonable place near harpers ferry, wv to get it done. i called twigg cycles in hagerstown, md and they said it would be around $500 to do just the top end. Does that sound about right? thanks again

Do you know someone who can do the disassembly/reassembly for you, or at least help you out if you need it?
If so, Ritter Cycle can send you out everything you need via UPS.
The way he did it for me, he sent a new piston, and a cylinder already honed to match it, along with new rings, gaskets, etc. Then I tore it down, and got it put together on the same day. I mailed my cylinder back to Rick, who then credited me back the cost of the cylinder (less the honing charge).
I really think this is the way to do it, as you get a matched piston & cylinder, yet don't have to wait on a machine shop to do the honing/boring as it comes sent to you as a matched set. Granted, you DO have to pay shipping both ways, but you can get it running the same day, and can save a bunch of $$ on the rebuild costs by doing most of the work yourself. There really isn't much to the top end of these 400 engines. The main thing is to keep everything clean, and be careful when torquing stuff down.
I did my Xplorer a year or two ago, cost was about $200, and I got it done in an afternoon, by myself. A helper could have cut it down maybe an hour or so.
