Default MAKE A SCRAMBLER GO SLOWER!

Here's a question you don't see very often. Would there be a way to make a scrambler 400 or 500 slower? I have a 400 Scrambler 4x4 and my kids are getting big enough to ride it without any problems other then they only know one speed and that is as fast as it will go. I really like the 4 wheel drive and the overall handling of the scrambler so I want to get another one for them. I have been reading up on clutch mods and was thinking maybe there would be a way to limit the maximum size that the clutch can reach, maybe with spacers or stops or something else added to the assembly. Does anyone have a way to make it go slower without causing other damage to the engine or drivetrain?

Have you tried to just screw in the throttle screw , it will restrict how far you can push the thumb throttle.

I have tried to use the throttle limiter solution but that causes problems when you need full power to climb hills or do a hole shot. I want to restrick speed not necesarrily power, if that makes sence.

Change your clutch set up.You can put a heavier spring in the secondary clutch (driven) and it will limit your top speed.

I'm following this discussion to try to get some workable ideas and I haven't tore into my clutch assembly to see how it is put together so any explanation of the way these things work would be helpful. Basically the way I understand it is that as the atv goes faster the front assembly diameter gets bigger and the rear assembly diameter gets smaller. Putting a heavier spring on the rear would seem to indicate that the rear assembly controls the front assembly. Is that correct?

Gear it waaaay down?? Not sure if you can do that easily with scramblers or not though. But it would be a LOT more torquier.

The only problem with gearing it down is that it will screw up the 4wd system.
