Hello Everyone! I've been reading the board for about a month and must say it has been very informative. So much so, that with the initial advice from my brother in law who has highly recomended Polaris, and to the members comments I've been following, I have decided on purchasing a 04 Scrambler (for me) and the 04 330 Magnum (for wife) in the next few weeks. My question is: I plan on changing the exhaust for a more rumble sound (not so much loud, but throaty). How important is it to have an arrestor on the pipe and does it hinder performance? Now from what I have read, without the exhaust arrestor, your not able to use the atv on public land. Does the exhaust really throw that much spark that it could cause a fire? I have my own land, but would like to join club members to other sanctioned park activities. Is the arrestor changable on certain pipes?? PS... why is the Scrambler refered to as Scrammy?? Thanks to all, and hope to catch up with a few New York, Long Islanders in the near future!!

Welcome to the forums, as i am a new user. I just purchased a 04 "Scrambler" myself this week, I love it cant wait for the snow to get here this wkend. As for your questions regarding your specs about the exhaust i definitly cannot help you there. I can although answer your question about the different names of the machine, and all i have to do, Is ask you: Why do some people call Michael Jordan "MJ"??

To ride on any public land (and possibly some private) you must have a NFS Approved spark arrestor. A spark arrestor doesn't rob you of much, maybe a 1/2HP.

The might not throw out much but it only takes a single spark to destroy riding areas, houses and possibly lives....

Most pipes you can take the arrestor if you want, some are more trouble than others...

I have a Supertrapp pipe that has tuneable disks for both power and sound and I think it sounds pretty good, White Bros pipe sound good too....I haven't heard any others that I can name anyways...

Scrammy? It's easier and cooler than Scrambler

Welcome and be prepared to spend money....it happens to us all!

Ask anything around these parts, there's lots of knowledgeable people who are more than willing to help out!

FamilyGuy....welcome to the forums!

Scrammy is to Scrambler as Rappy is to Raptor and Pred is to Predator and Banshee is to Shee as Chev is to Chevrolet. Why? I'm not sure. I guess it just makes people feel better to give their rides a nick or something.

About the arrestor...I would certainly recommend it. Unless you are a VERY serious racer the arrestor won't hinder your power at all, it's nothing more than a screen. And yes, most after market pipes allow for it to be removed if you please. The chance of it starting a fire might be less than fligging a cigerette butt out the window but the chance is still there and it just isn't worth risking. Any decent after market pipe will give your ride a more throaty and "louder" sound like it or not. I can't personally recommend one for the Scrambler because I don't own one but I'm sure you will get some good feedback here. After all, this is a great forum.

Again, welcome!

Welcome to Scramblerdom. I believe we run the best "all around" quad made. It is not the fastest nor the most powerfull. It does however, pull all of the good qualities of many quads together. And you just can't beat that. Not only can the spark arrestor keep flames from shooting out of the pipe, which I guess is posible, but it can keep embers from flaking off the walls of the inside of the pipe and landing on dry brush around you. I run an Aaen pipe with SuperTrapp spark arrestor. I am very happy with the sound and my buddies all have commented on the rumble it makes positively. According to Aaen, the arrestor does not affect the hp and comes with 12 discs. You can quite it down by removing discs and it won't affect the hp unless you go below 8 discs.

I have the HPD Powermaxx exhaust. A few others on here have it as well. This is a very nice exhaust that has that signature "thumper" sound. It almost sounds like a muffled Harley. I really like it. HOWEVER, it is not spark arrested, nor is there one available for it (unless you make a custom application) But, I have never had any trouble or problems with it, and the DNR has never given me and heck about it. If you want a spark arrested exhaust, Supertrapp, White Bros., Hot Seat Performance, and Aaen Performance have spark arrested versions. A K&N air filter with either a Prefilter or Outerwears is a good investment as well. And a clutch kit will make a big difference. Its information like this this that has caused a snowball effect for mods for some people on here....................(trailrider and scrambo)

Thanks everyone for the quick reply for a Thursday evening! News forecast 6-12 inches of snow here on the island by Saturday night. That SUCKS!!! Haven't bought the units yet. Well, as usual, the kids will have a blast on their go kart. Scrammy uh, can deal with the name. Hell, if I can handle my bike being called an "Hog". Cheers everyone and glad to be on the forum.

"Hog" beats "pig". Although it can be a "pig" at times

depending on the spark arrestor you can lose up to 2 hp... the one they sent with my biggun is a tiny screen that goes over the end.. i wouldnt lose any power if i had it on.. but i ride is mostly sand.. and i have never seen anything come flying out of my exhaust (not that i am lookin at it tho)
some pipes have a long cone shaped arrestor... thats when you start loosing power.
