Default DS650-Predator-Hopping up Scrambler

Ok guys I want you to take this into serious consideration, dont just trash on the DS I know there big (im big too) and I kno they hit the rev limiter but thats ok its fixible. Heres the bases Im roughly 6'2'' and 220 lbs. I ride fast trails and a little technical stuff, basically boondocking and field blasting. As it stands I was thinking about getting a 600 kit for my dads scrammy since its fried and he wants a utility so he can just trade mine in. Or I can work for the whole summer with a trade and try to pay off the predator. There are always several good condition DS's floating around for a little over 3k. So I was wondering wich would be good for me, I like all these ideas, but have a limited budget. I really like the scrammy and theres several things I can do to it to make it great, or I can buy a predator or DS and get want I'm basically building the scrammy to, manual or auto dosent really matter to me. But remember I'm kidna big and hate being cramped on a quad.

any input would be great and help would be much appreciated

Since your kinda big i dont think a pred is right for you... I would mod the scram and save some money a DS is a good quad but is a pig and has no reverse and moving that thing around would not be fun... If you want some more info on the 600 kit go to---->PA Forums A guy by the name of Fuj he has the kit and is a pertty nice guy... Moding the scam is the best way to go...

Hope this helps....

The DS is not a pig at all, the front looks big but the quad itself isn't any much bigger then most also the ground clearence is great and it still weighs less then the scrambler. Besides not having the reverse factor, go with the DS if you don't mind the lack of reverse. ALso the DS is cool because if you wanted to do some MX stuff, you can. I think you would have more fun whipping it around then the scrambler. Besides I never even used the 4x4 much, the only time I use it is becasue the weight of the scrambler will dig into things instead of going over it like a faster lightr sport like the DS. You save an extra 100lbs of weight with the DS. And if you like clutch, you'll have a blast. Besides, if you looking for a sport bike and not a utility then get the DS, the scrambler is really a utility in a sport type frame.

I'm 6 foot 210 pounds I had a 96 sport liked it real well got an 03 DS love it, much more comfortablegreat power and handling. the sport weighed around 450 I believe the 03 DS is around 460 width is only one inch different between the two, so go test ride them both and see for yourself I'd never go back .

My riding buddy had a DS. He really struggles in the technical stuff with the width of the machine and the lack of reverse. To some it may not be a big deal, but in the technical trails, it means everything. But then again, you can never build the scram to be the speed demon as the DS is, but them again, you cant build the DS to have the versatility that the scram has

An inch is not that much, but I kinda like the fact of not having reverse sometimes. I feel it makes me more alert, no one wants to get off and push their bike. I think it makes the ride more challenging and you become more alert when getting around things that you normally would use reverse for, helps improve skill. Also pushing the DS shouldn't be that bad, ever try to puch a scram? Those things just don't like to move.

The DS is 49.5" and the scram is 45.5". That 4" makes a HUGE difference in the really techinal tight stuff. And I have to disagree on the reverse thing. I will try mud holes and hills that my friend on his DS wont cuz I know that I can always back out or down. I always have to lead the pack when we try new trails because I am the only one that can back out if we run into a problem. And I am just as aware of my surrounding whether I have reverse or not. I guess it comes naturally from because I have to be SO aware of others and my surrounding on the road when I am on my bike
