DS650-Predator-Hopping up Scrambler
#21
Down in the LP of Mich, we have a lot of the smaller trails that are for the most part only about 50" wide. My froend on his DS makes it through them, but can only go about 1/2 the speed that I can. The hidden stumps and rocks along the side are a lot more noticeable for him so he has to be extra causious. When the trails open up some then he is fine. But the "technical" trails that I like to ride are about as tuff as they come. They are more challengine than going in in a giant sand box or in a straight line. I like to push myself and my machine to its limits and these trails do it for me. This is what the scram was made for IMO.

Well thats your opinion and that fine. While I disagree with it. Its a no brainer that the DS is faster, has more power, better suspension, and better handling than the scrambler, but that is like comparing apples to oranges. The scrambler is not a sport machine. It is a sport utility with the best of both worlds.

thank you bigbadscrambler somone finally willing to admit something might be better at somethin than a polaris. easy.... for trails get the scramlber, for mx/dunes get the ds.

They are both in totaly differn classes. Someone would be out of their mind if they said a scram 500 is a better duner than a DS. My machine fits my needs and wants. That is ALL that matters to me.

My kids 250EX smokes me on the trails - its a lot narrower But I'd still take the DS cause I don't ride trails real fast anyways cause I don't know whos flying up in the other direction .

lol nice hozed, however as this heated debate started between the scrammy and the DS you forgort I was also very interseted in the Predator....throw this thing into the debate. And BBS I dont really do enough technical stuff to worry about it, however the tighter it gets the more I want a scrambler. Its still nice if you where to ad the Pred... well.. i think the pred is the best all around quad.. and thats that.. it does everything i need it too.. and does it well. but if your tight on cash and can get a ds like 2-3 grand cheaper than a pred.. than do it.. the ds isnt that bad.. just ugly.

How can you really even say a DS is better than the scrambler? That's like saying...a mustang is better than a chevy silverado 4x4...the two just cant be compared. It all comes down to your needs. Why I bought the scrammy was mainly to mud and do trails and some snow...with occassional jumping. Here whenever it gets muddy it gets MUDDY. You NEED 4wd and I've seen before if you're going extreme 2x4s just arent going to cut it. For what I do it's perfect...the DS can't touch it. No on the other hand if you're a duner and go to the MX track every once in awhile ( I don't think the DS can compete with the others quite as well in an actual MX race) then the DS is your choice. Can the scrambler do well in the dunes? Can the DS mud? No.....that's why you can't say one's better than the other they both have strong points and weaknesses.

The DS is not the best MX quad at all, but it can handel the tracks and trails as well as pretty high jumps. The problem with the Scrambler is it's weight, it seems to dig into stuff to much instead of gliding over it. I have a Cannondale and I get through mud and sandy streams better then and with less effort then the Scrambler. Just becasue it's a 2x4 doesn't mean it cant deliver. Of course you are going to have a few limitations, look at the trail blazer, its a 2x4 and if you riding it right you get through almost all the stuf you can with a Scrambler, becasue the TB weighs less. Most people go to slow when riding through mud and water, you have to go fast and push the bike through it, otherwise it just digs right in.
