The ranger told us they caught the local teen who destroyed the map case. By the way, he said we can camp along the trail, build a fire etc. He said do not go very far off the trail though. They are really trying to crack down on people not staying on or close to the trail. They fined a group that went about 150 yards off the trail to set up a camp site.
