BRAND NEW 2004 1/2 WITH 15 HOURS. LOVE THE BIKE , MY FIRST ATV. HOPE YOU GUYS CAN HELP. SLOW TO WARM UP(SLOWER THAN OTHERS OF THE SAME MAKE). WENT ON A RUN ,WORKED GREAT FOR 1 HOURS THEN STARTED MISSING LIKE A CAR WITH BAD WIRES IN THE RAIN.ONLY LASTED FOR 10 MIN. THEN WORKED GREAT.CHECKED THE PLUG,THE SEAT FOAM(AS YOU SAID),.I BLAIMED IT ON RUNNING THROUGH PUDDLES. TOOK IT AGAIN ,SLOW TO WARM UP, NO WATER ON TRAIL, DROVE 15 MIN ACTED UP AGAIN FOR 5 MIN THEN WORKED FINE. WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY DEALER OR CAN I FIX IT MYSELF? I KNOW INT. CAR PROBLEMS ARE HARD TO FIND, HOPE THIS IS NOT A CURSE ...HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED..MARK

i got a 2003 sp 600 and there are 2 recalls on it that i know of one is a bigger line from the carb to the crank case and the other is drilling holes in the carbs and rejetting mine goes in next week to get done,
this is to cure the problem of warming up, back firing and bascily runing like crap. you think they would have had that worked out by now but i guess not. anyways ask your dealer about the 2003 updates and see if they need to be done on yours. hope this helps

I would look at the play in your throttle cable. They seem to stretch a lot when new.. Check your owners manual for correct adjustment and how to. I have an 03 600 with 3800 miles on it and have never had to re-adjust after that first time.

I have a 03 sp600 & 03 sp700. my 700 warms up quick, 600 3 times as long. its real stoggy when it is cold. i run it with the choke slightly open for a few minutes and really run it hard. push the choke in and it runs flawlessly for the rest of the day. as for the backfiring and stuff it sounds like water in the fuel to me. i always run de-icer and polaris fuel treatment. the other trick is to shut your fuel petcock to the off position and run it until it stalls. after it stalls turn the fuel back on and restart. should be good to go after that. i brought this problem up to my dealer and he was going to do a bunch of stuff to it but i said don't worry about it let me break it in first. i run through this proceedure every ride no problems at all. in fact it wastes my 700 at take off and feels much lighter even know it's not. it's also less money and blows the doors off kawy 650 with a pipe on the top end easy but the twin kawy is much quicker off the line. anyway just though it might help. ps have other buddies with 600's who reported the same problems. i told them my method to my madness and they said that it accually works.
later & good luck!!

I just got my 2003 600 twin back from dealer after they performed 2 recalls on it. It runs a lot better and warms up quicker. Seems to idle a lot better now.
