weight savings from steel to aluminum

Default weight savings from steel to aluminum

By switching from stock steel wheels to aluminums how much weight will i save?

alot i have heard about 12 lbs per wheel that seems like alot but i have not checked to see how much lighter my itps are vs stock but when you hold the aluminum you will be shocked at the diff...

Its not that much. If I remember, its about 8-10 lbs. total!!!

You don't save much at all. I remember looking at aluminum horse trailers compared to the same model in steel, and I was shocked at how little weight you save since everything has to be made of thicker material to have the same strength. It's more of a prestige thing and aluminum doesn't rust.

But the fact that it's rotating mass weight loss makes it a bigger gain than just 10lbs!

Not to mention unsprung weight. Shaving 10 pounds from either bike or rider is like instant horsepower and it does not put more stress on the motor if anything it lessens the stress.
