A charger is great but once that battery is dead it won't hold a charge and the only thing its good for is the deposite toward a new battery

If you plan on leaving the charger on to keep the battery up between rides, I would recommend the Battery Tender, it has a sensing circuit that will stop charging when the battery is at full charge, and ' float ' charge it, that is, pulse the output to maintain the full charge. Your 17 dollar trickle chargers are fine for a recharge, but if you leave it on long term, even a 1 amp charger will cook out your battery if left on long enough. A car charger, 5 to 10 amps, will quickly charge a quad battery, but they will do more harm than good over the long haul, that little battery is only designed for what your stator puts out, most of the sport quads put out 150 watts, not a lot of amperage, so be careful hooking up to a bigger charger.

Just for clarification....
The WalMart EverStart that I bought IS a float charger. It is designed to be left connected to maintain a stored battery.

Very timely topic, for me anyway. I have been dealing with a $hitty electrical system and have seen the battery and tender at Wally world. Guess I will go that route too.

Thanks guys!

There are two choices for trickle chargers at my Wally World. They are both identical chargers but one comes with an extra lead so you can permanently hook it up to two different batteries. The one that doesn't have the extra leads is in a bigger box for some reason, the prices are identical. I had never seen them before in my store and I saw this subject somewhere and I happened to look at the batteries and there they were! I'm gonna get another one I think for my travel trailer.

TreeDoc, I got the everstart trickle charger that has a float mode, it also has two types of connecters, the aligator clips and the type you would leave connected for easy connection to the battery, they are just round connections that fit over the battery terminals.
Stay warm all you Easterners
