Default 2000 Sportsman AWD cuts out in low range.

This happens only in low range about half throttle. I herd that the AWD cuts out at 3000 RPM. Does anyone know if this is true. I also have a 1999 Sportsman 500 and it doesn't happen on that one.

If I am going up a steep hill in the snow all 4 wheels are spinning. Then the AWD drive light on the handle bars goes out and the front tires disengage. Once that happens I have to go to the bottom and start over again.
