03 700 problem
#11
There was a white plastic spacer in the drive that would crack and hang up. It limited the primary from opening up 100%. This may be both of your problems. I think it is #8 in this Partsland diagram. Most guys I heard just removed and tossed in the trash. No need to replace it. Double check with your service tech though.

I figured it out. My belt wasn't centered on the primary so i tried adding washers to the driven with no success it wasn't centering the belt. After messing around for awhile decided to swap belts with the other 700 and it worked fine. i have 800 miles on mine and the belt looks brand new. we put my belt on the other 700 and it caused the same problem with that one so the problem was with the belt. We flipped it around and put it on backwards and it worked just fine. I'm not sure if the belt was just labeled wrong or if it just wore funny. anways everthing works fine and no shifting difficulties!!

when you look at the belt both ours were installed so that you could read Polaris and some numbers. i put it on so that when you looked at it you read Polaris upside down. Fixed all the problems. Don't really know why but it worked.

My 700 was hard to shift after going thru a big ol nasty mud hole. What happened was that water had gotten past a 50 cent o-ring into the shift linkage on the side of the tranny. This caused some rust to form on some part (can't remember the name of it) and a gorilla could no longer get this thing into any gear. Took the rusty part out, sanded it with fine sandpaper, greased it, slapped it back in and was as good as new. Haven't had any problems since.
