Default 2004.5 Sportsman 400 Problems

ktmguy,

I ended up putting Dynojet kits in both this last weekend. The Dynojet setup works better than all the jetting I tried previously. It still seems rich in the midrange when excelerating. I only got to ride alittle on sunday and no time to adjust. What did you end up with for the settings on yours?

ktmguy,

All I do is remove the seat, right side cover, air box cover, intake air boot (pull back and wedge behind clutch intake tube to keep out of way), carburetor bracket, 2 clear hoses, 2 black hoses, and loosen the clamp on boot between the carb and engine. (I flipped this clamp over so I can get to it from the right side). the first time you will need a long screwdriver and pull the left cover to loosen the screw. I leave the choke and throttle cable attached and can quite easily flip the carb over to change jets and needle position. It took me just over an hour to install both kits and ride them around the yard for a few minutes each. Hope this helps you out, should make it less of a pain to make adjustments.

I tried that the first time, but couldnt get the carb boot loose , maybe my Clamp was turned a bit different than yours, but I put it back on a little bit more accesible, so your right, I should be able to do it that way.. Probably wont be a pain after all.. Im thinking though if I lean the mid out any more'Ill have to richen the main a notch..I'll Play and see what happens. I do know that at wide open throttle it runs great, and honestly I havent had it bog any in the mid-range, it just doesnt feel Quite right.. But Very Close, closest yet.

sounds like ours are running exactly the same. I find I have to use the choke more on startup and doesn't idle quite as smooth as before, but still not bad. Like you said, we'll have to play with them. Hope to get a Heelclicker next!

Mine was idleing a bit erratically before but seems good now, could be the temps., And I dont use choke unless its like 25 or so out, but anything from 30's on up it starts right up... ANYWHoooooo...
The Heelclicker will make you very happy.. I put mine to the test, just for fun.. ( I had a spare belt on hand just in case). I hooked it to a tree and spun all 4 tires in High range 4x4 mode... I have had my cover off a few times since installing the kit and I have absolutely No belt dust at all..Its a Great Kit.
I run the WHite spring for a bit more pep, but with the Kit in and the stock spring and the shoulder weights, it would climb a tree with nothing but the weight of your thumb on the throttle in Low.
Make sure you go to the Nation or QuadSquad and get the Site discount, knocks a good bit off your price.
