#1

i have a 2002 polaris sp 400 4x4
i hooked up the lights first and all works. now for low beam just the grill lights work and on high beam all three lights work.
the reverse override kit worked also. no more pushing in the yellow button. full power in reverse and 4x4.
the yellow button is now a horn....he also explains how to do that.
just thought i'd et you all know....no big deal but to me it is....i hated that reverse set up polaris has

You don't need a kit to do the reverse override and still keep all the indicator light working properly. No parts to buy. If anyone wants to know how i'll be glad to tell them how. Just post here to let me know

let me know
i know you can take the purple and grey w/white stripe coming from yellow buttonand cut and connect them together. then clip the orange/gray wire from speedometer and leave it.
then you can hook up a horn from the purple and grey w/ white stripe from the yello button. and your yello button is now a horn button.
but.......when you hook up direct like i said with the purple and grey w/white stripe.....the "R" light stays lit in "drive". doesn't hurt anyhting but don't look right.
let me know if this what you did.

I found these instructions a few years ago and can confirm that they do work, on a 1997. 2000, and 2004 Scramblers.
Open the hood of your machine and on the upper right hand side you will find the wires that I will refer to. Locate and cut the gray/orange stripe wire which goes from the over ride button to the speedo. Tape off the cut ends as these will no longer be used. You have just bypassed the reverse rev-limiter. Locate the three purple wires that terminate with a female spade type connector. (this connector is not connected to anything and will be just hanging there waiting for somebody to connect a reverse light to it) Of the three purple wires, find the one that goes to the override button and cut it off as close to the spade connection as possible. Locate the gray/white stripe wire and splice a 6" piece of wire to it with a male spade connector crimped to the other end. ( make sure your splice is well insulated as there will be power through it). Locate the red/white stripe wire (ignition activated power) which ends with a female spade connector. ( this connector is not connected to anything and is just hanging there waiting for somebody to connect an accessory to it ) Take the 6" male connector on the wire you just installed and plug it in to the red/white stripe female connector.
Congratulations you have just bypassed the reverse AWD override. If you want to hook up a backup light ( that functions when the bike is put in reverse ) simply connect the positive lead of your backup light to the purple lead with the female connector on it that is waiting for a backup light. Then ground the negative light lead to a brown wire ( ground ) or frame of the bike.
If you want to install an accessory that requires a momentary power on switch (horn) simply connect its positive lead to purple lead that you had previously cut off and its negative lead to a brown wire or frame of the bike. If you do not connect the purple lead to any thing make sure you tape it up as there will be power coming through if you push the override button.
The powering of the gray/white is what makes the shifter lights work properly.

my way works also on the 2002 polaris sportsman.
your directions seemed like the ones i had.......but yours was confusing......lol
remove your pod
cut the grey/orange wire from speedo...tape ends...wont be used.
from the yellow button follow the wires to under the pod ...clip the purple and grey w/white stripe. you can connect those together. but the "R" light will stay lit when in drive.that is it!!!
the wires you have left hanging from the yellow button(purple and grey w/white stripe) you can hook a horn up to it.
now your yellow button is a horn

I did not write those instructions, someone else did. I just reposted them. Second do not connect the purple to the gray/white, this will cause the indicator lights not to work properly. Instead hook switched 12 volts the gray/white wire, this will allow the indicator lights to work properly. This still leaves the yellow button open for use for a horn or whatever else.
