Default sportsman ?

Hi .....I'm new to the forum & am enjoying it

I just bought a 2004 400 sportsman about a month ago. Having alot of fun with it but I have a question. When I use reverse the steering pulls to one side while backing up. Is this normal?

is it in 4x4 when you back up, with rev/overdrive??, could also be new yet still has tight bearings in her, let it break in a bit 100 - 200 miles then open her up down a long streach that will get your bearings loosened up good. aslo jsut a thought check the tire pressure.

My SP. 400 will do this when the tire pressure is a little off.

I read this in a ATV review of the Magnum 500 on this site. IT is the exact same problem you are having.

The "On-Demand" had a minor problem that we understand happens with other similarly equipped models. If the thumb switch is on for activation of the system, one of the front tires will occasionally go into lock mode when shifting into reverse, and it's hard turning the handlebars when backing up. It only happens occasionally, and is corrected by turning the thumb switch off, but we thought it worth mentioning.

Yes it is in 4x4 but without the rev/overdrive button..... I will check the tire pressure.. By the way what should the pressure be at? I just came in from a short ride and the H (high) L(low) R (reverse) display quit working....Maybe wet? I dunno . It has 9.4 hours on it about 90 miles... Is there somewhere a guy can get a service manual for this?
