Speaking of creek banks, my friend was stuck on one and we all had to wait 5 minutes before he could go. It also quit on him twice. We all had no problems crossing the creek and going up the bank. He now wants to trade. I'm not dissing the sp, it has it's strongpoints, mud etc. I think it's taking on water because smoke was coming from under the hood. I'm just pointing out what comes around goes around. His sp will out mud mine, although I've gone everywhere he has and mine will out run his. There is no single "ultimate quad" in my opinion, they all have their strongpoints. I do admire your guys loyalty to your bikes though.

<<Excellent choice SwampDog! I just purchased one a week ago today, and have ridden it a total of 0.1 miles (when I test drove it)! Between this crappy rainy weather we've had, >>

Rain and muck are where Quads shine!! You need an adjustment and some good riding gear! I'd rather ride in this weather than the 100 degrees predicted by the season...not to mention the lovely slide-ability created by a slick surface!!

Rain is quad wwwwwweather!

Here's an update on my SP500. The leaking gas cap was caused by a bad cork gasket, The new problem is my silver metalic plastic is ruined.A 6 inch diameter yellow gas stain on the top of the tank,I have verbal assurances from the salesman that it will be replaced under warranty.

The rack vibration I took care of myself, also adjusted the headlight and throttle cable, so much for dealer setup and the "30 Point Checklist"one low beam light was so loose it swiveled on turns. The 500 is in their shop now so they can "see what to order".After reading another post I'm wondering if they checked my front end....heavy steering.

The Left rear tire was flat when my sons and I went to load it on the trailer, checked the tire for a puncture ,the valve body leaks past the rim.

As I said before the 500 rides well and is good in the mud, I will ride it more and see how polaris handles the plastic damage before my final judgement.

Questions...the rear coil springs rub the shock towers, is this normal? Where have you mounted the solenoid for the winch? What about the toggle switch?

Regards, SwampDog

Good luck with LaBarrons, the owner talked to a friend and myself like we were two-year olds. I have heard more bad than good about that place. We went out to K & W in Utica and bought a Magumun for myself and my buddy bought the Remington. We both are new to this whole Polaris thing. I ride ski-doo's and he rides Artic Cat. In the past we could never see ourselves on a Polaris product but thier ATV's seem like nice machines. So far we have had no problems. Good luck with yours.

SwampDog:

I tried a day on a Kodiac 400 before I bought my SP500. By the end of the day on the kodiac, I felt like I had been riding on a vibrator. Granted it has a lighter feel than the 500 and steering is lighter. The smoothness of the sp is worth the trade off if you spend any time on one. Also, I get my TYBO work out and have fun at the same time. SP 500 forever.

SwampDog, Reference the rear shock springs rubbing on the shocks. It is not normal. Both mine and my friends, 2000 Sportsman 500's did this. We took them to different dealers and they replaced the shocks and springs under warranty. We were told if it wasn't fixed the shock would eventually rust out. Good Luck.
