Default reverse woes on scrammy

When I try to put the scrammy into reverse it just doesn't engage. One out of maybe 6 or so tries engages correctly and the other times the tranny just clanks like it went into gear but didn't. I have adjusted the shifter linkage both ways trying to see if it helps, but neither way makes a difference. Anybody have any suggestions?

If your idle is ok and the shifter is adjusted right about the only other thing to check before tearing into the tranny is the bell crank arms on the shifter at the tranny.these have a tendancy to get worn and have slop in them.Check this before anything else.
