How fast has everyone taken thier ATV's? I don't have a reading yet for my stock Trail Boss 325 however after the weekend I'll let you know. What seems to make the biggest performance difference in your acceleration and top speed? Keep it honest!

I find putting the SP500 in the back of my truck really makes alot of difference in its top speed!

Sorry! Couldn't help myself! Come on you guys wanted to say it too!

From what I have seen, the stock 325 Boss will do right around 45-47 mph. Thats not for sure, just what other Boss owners have said.

To add better acceleration is easiest by adding a pipe/clutch kit. The clutch kit alone will add much more acceleration. It does this by letting the engine rev up a bit more before engaging the clutch, much like a stall converter on a car would. The pipe will help this out even more. You will not see too much more top end, maybe 1 or 2 mph. It is hard to get a lot more top speed from most quads. Changing the gear is the easiest way to do this. But you have to find a balance. Gearing for more top end, you will lose low end. Gearing for acceleration, you will lose some top speed.

my 2000 SP goes 57 or so. Your 325 should be 45 or so that sounds about right, the 325 Magnum is about 42 or so, the TB should be somewhat faster being allot lighter.

You said a clutch kit allows the engine to rev. up more before the clutch engages. So would that result in a stronger hit when the clutch engages,
meaning possible front end left. My '94 polaris 300 2x4 will lift about 2 feet on a cold day with a cold engine and thats without any mods or standing on the back rack. So I was wondering what it could do with a clutch kit?

Yes, it is easier to loft the front with a clutch kit. But you can roll on the power easily, to advoid this. One thing to consider, is the higher the kit engages, the more low end you will lose. Not low end as in engine power. But low end, as in very slow put put, pulling a trailer for yard work low end. It is somewhat of a trade off. But you can find a happy medium, as the clutches on a CVT tranny are infinitly tunable, providing you, or whoever does the work, knows what they are doing.

I finally got to use a GPS to check my 500 AC on the top speed. With 27" Tri/Bi claws on flat pavement, I topped out at 52mph. On a dirt downgrade, I got up to 57mph. I was ok with that, especially with the heavier tires.

First weekend out on the new machine, I put on 108 miles between two days. The terrain was rather rough, carved between cut down trees and along steep (keep on the trail or you'll roll down the hill sideways) trails. The trails were tight so the average was round 12mph however on some more open mixed traffic areas I got it up to 43mph at full throtle. Doing over 100 miles in two days about all I can do now is type... I'm soar.

i have taken my 98 400L sport up to 68 mph. i have a HPD clutch kit and a HPD performance exhaust. i used a gps to clock how fast i was going. the clutch kit and exhaust seemed to me to make a noticable difference in the acceleration. Just curious gbmichigan where do you ride at i also live in michigan and always looking for new places to ride.
