Changing oils in 700 Sportsman
I was told by the Polaris dealer I bought some AGL oil from (Polaris synthetic transmission oil) that I needed the same oil in the front differential as what is in the transmission. When I drained the oils, the tranny had purple in it and the front diff. had green in it (transmission oil and hub fluid, respectively). I questioned this with another Polaris dealer today and he's said to use the hub fluid in the front differential and not the transmission oil.
My question is what can I use? Will I hurt anything to run the transmission oil in the front differential? Both oils are very thin, but I don't know what the lubricating properties are of them both and I don't want to harm anything. Planning a big ride this weekend and don't want to leave myself stranded.
Thanks,

The hub fluid (greenish) is right for the front diff and the purple is right for the tranny in back. I would not mix fluids - I would stick with the reccomendations. You paid too much money for that machine - put the right oil in there. The front diff fluid is equivalent to atf (automatic transmission fluid). The tranny, so I have heard, is similar to Amsoil gearcase lube... I don't know if that is true or not.

Got it.
I went back to the dealer and got the hub fluid, drained the purple stuff and filled the front hub to the bottom of the plug hole. That puts it at about a little less than 3 o'clock position, which is where I filled it on my scrambler hubs.
Thanks guys. It is just irritating to me that I wasted the purple stuff. Since it's $10/quart, I don't like to waste a drop. For that price, it should come with a hat or something.
