octane boosters.............
I have never EVER found a octane booster that helped reduce detonation or gained any power whatsoever .
The only way I have ever seen to reduce detonation in an engine is to mix the pump gas with race gas .
I am not a chemist , nor do I pretend to be one , but the guys that are chemists tell you NOT to mix race gas and pump gas . I have though , mixed the two and reduced detonation .

i have little idea how to apply all the information in the above posts so let me ask if anybody could answer an octane question regarding a 500 scrambler 4x4 (2004). what type of gas is best to put in the scrambler at the gas station? and, should you use any octane booster on it, or anything else?

alwayssomethin just read your owners manual and you will find the info you are looking for. I bet it will be 87, but it could be slightly higher.
A long time ago I used a product called liquid horsepower. It was very concentrated. 1 ounce treated 15 gallons of gas. I could not believe such a small amount could work. All I know about the product was that it worked in my case. I have a 340 that liked something better than pump gas, and this product stopped the pinging.
I have heard about another product call Alantic coast engineering that is very good. I have never personally tried this product though.
I don't play around much with this stuff anymore. If I have a race engine, I use race fuel. If I'm right on the edge of detonation with good pump gas then I mix toleune with it like the link mistertinker provided. Doing this is very cheap and works VERY well.
