2003 Sp front right shaft unerversal broke?
#1
I have a 03 Sp 400 4x4..and the front right shaft the unerversal broke.... while riding... i called a local dealer he said if i bring the shaft and the yoke in he will put the unerversal in. BUT i have no idea how to take the shaft off the hub or even take the CV boot off. He said something bout a Snapring inside the shaft... i dont want to brake it.and he said it would take them a week or so to get around to doing it..So if anyone can explain how to take the shaft out of the hub.. That would be great Thanks...

Really a service manual is going to be your biggest help.... you might consider getting one.
There is no need to remove the CV boot, take it all to the dealer as an assembly (well a 2 piece assembly if the U joint has separated).
The front axle comes out by:
Remove the wheel - Remove the brake caliper - Remove the wheel hub cover (fluid will drain out) - Remove the wheel hub/ axle nut (hub will come off) - Remove the wheel bearing and clutch assembly (pay attention of how the clutch is put together, especially the armature plate with 3 tabs).
Remove the nut holding the "A" arm, pop the "A" arm loose from the strut assembly. By prying the strut assembly out and away from the axle, it will clear the end of the axle (be careful not to mess up the axle to strut assembly seal).
Now comes the hard part - the axle is held onto the front gearbox by a drift pin, and getting to it is a pain, the drift pin needs to be driven out enough that it will clear the splined shaft of the front gearbox and allow the yoke to slide off.
Going back together is reverse of taking off - You will need new hub fluid and I would suggest replacing the seals in the strut assembly and the hub. You will also have to find out the torque spec of the axle nut.
Here is a diagram of the front axle showing the drift pin to remove, and Here is a diagram of the front hub assembly.
