POlaris brought the reputation of PRoblem Child and poor reliability on itself. I bought a 300 Xplorer brand new in 1996, within 1 week, the tie rods were loose, within 2 weeks, the Swingarm was loose, then the steering stem.. Had a Carb issue that NO dealer could fix, Rear shock was loose went through bushings left and right. The MOTOR was the only thing that held up on it, My Neighbor bought a 2000 400 Xplorer.. VERY same issues, absolutely no build quality, rebuilt the starter several times.. Just couldnt get it to seal. Again, Motor was never a problem, just all the junk that surrounded it.
When I Bought my 04 Model I made it VERY clear that if this unit falls apart like My previous one did, I was gonna drive it right through their front window and demand compensation... now I KNOW they are built better now days, My 04 has 7 months of riding and is still tight, nothing loose. No problems other than some jetting issues. SO while they may be better now, it was REALLY just a short time ago that they really started putting some quality into these things, and im sure there are alot of older ones still running around out there with 90% of the Chassis loose.
People Pay Attention to those things and it sticks with them. Kinda like the new Ford 6.0 Diesel, has been an Absolute nightmare, with record level Buybacks and Problems making national news, lawsuits being threatened, yet 2 years from now when that motor FINALLY gets straightened out (optimistic) People are going to still remember all the problems it had.
