Any of you Polaris guys have a Grizzly?

No, it's actually in the tank, you can see it splattering into the breather tube on the gas cap (and you can hear it too if you shut the engine off). The original breather tube was black, but that blew off one day while trailering it to a riding area, then I replaced it with some of that clear vinyl tubing. However it may be boiling in the carb too (hot gas from the tank), which may explain the "sputtering" situation if you suddenly try to give it full throttle under this condition. The heat shielding of the heat kit helps to keep the tank cooler, plus the vented side panels allow for better air circulation and a place for that hot air to escape...

I’ve never heard of gas coolers before (oil coolers, yes) but I’m not saying there isn’t such a thing. This extra ventilating and heat shielding seems to do the job though. This “fix” has been done (and reported on this forum) successfully by Grizzly owners in the past long before Yamaha offered the “heat kit” solution (something they did only a few months ago). Before the ’04 side panels were available, people used to cut holes in their side panels and cover them with some sort of screening to keep chunks of mud and debris out. The other part of this fix was to wrap the exhaust pipe in the area of the engine with heat shielding wrap. I had considered doing this fix myself but I had run across this problem so rarely (and only when using it for heavy work – not trail riding) it just wasn’t an important issue for me so I never got around to doing it. However now that Yamaha is offering a free fix I’m taking advantage of that opportunity to rectify that problem…

fuel cooler that one would be way too big for atv use. It may cool the gas enough so its not boiling when it enters your carb.
