I just got back for a atv rally mud run .to make a long story my buddy had some bad luck with his 2001
400 sportsman . The crank case vent hose chaffed through against the transmission line i think ??
anyway there was a hole in the crank case vent hose , it sucked in enough mud to clog the filter screen in the oil tank . The oil pump pumped the crank case dry of oil ,since the screen was cloged there was no oil returned to the crank case .& it siezed . the sad thing about it this could have been prevented .who thinks about checking the crank case vent hose , now i will .

 

Ya, it seems like we never think about the little things even though those little things can be big problems........good info we should know.

 

i make it a point to check the vent hoses atleast every other ride..
