Everything inside is rusted really bad. My bendix (?) drive is in sad shape. Are all the little bits of spring from the bendix? or something else? I soaked the bendix in WD-40 to clean it and it works much better, but I am wondering about the thrust washers . . . I suppose they are seperate and not connected to the bendix? I think the rust has fused them to the bendix. I have thought about placing it in the ultrasonic tank for a bit, or would I be better off getting a new unit off of Ebay (tons of them there).
Also do I need to the the two bushings out of the cover and engine? or just leave them fused where they are with heavy amounts of lube?
Do I need to prepare the new gasket or just put it on and tighten the bolts down?

Well, I re-assembled it and gave it a whirl and it works, but I will have to wait and see how long it goes before it won't engage without being tapped.
The new radiator sensor kicks on the fan again and now I need to re-assemble the front end. Kind-of like the way my Sportsman looks without all the stuff on the front end.
Now to do the gear boxes, fronthub, and engine oil change.

I am just kidding and I do not condone the drinking of any ATV fluids.
