After Break in shop visit
#1
OK have had my trailboss for about 2 years only have rode it about 20-25 hours since I have had it....Until recently ...I have been riding it everyday.and plan on riding it at least every weekend....I never took it for a break in shop visit or anything so I was wondering what all I need to do to it. I changed the oil...I got the gearcase Lube to change tranny fluid. What else????I have greaded all the Zerks....ohh and is it ok to use automotive grease/lube. You can also Im me at blkyellow03x

They are pretty easy to take care of. You've changed the fluids and kept it greased. Keep the air filter clean, the chain lubed and adjusted and you'll be ok. Haven't had mine in the shop since I bought it. Auto grease is fine. I use Mobil 1 0/40 oil instead of Polaris brand, it's cheaper and never had a problem. You can also use an oil filter other than Polaris. Would stay away from Fram, but there are others out there that are good and less expensive than Polaris. My biggest expenses are grease and chain lube, grease it after every weekend ride and lube the chain before every ride. Mine has seen some pretty serious abuse and never let me down.

Do I have to check my valve clearances? And how much grease do you put in the zerks.I ususually put like 2 pumps....you can blow the seals out with too much right?Do you have aim?Or should I check anything in or around my belt? I have been using 90 weight oil for my chain. How much slack you guys run in your chain.Mine rubs that rub block just barely is that ok?If there is anything else I should do please let me know

As far as how much grease, I pump till it starts to put grease out around the seals. That will get any dirt and grime out of part and help it last. Just be sure to wipe the excess off, otherwise it's a dirt magnet. I just put a new chain on and it's pretty tight right now, but it will stretch so i put on tight to save me the trouble later. Normally it does rub on the block. Probrably the best investment is a service manual. Got mine on Ebay for 23 bucks. You can also download a parts manual from the Polaris website. Good thing to have if you do any work, you'll have the breakdown of how everything is supposed to fit. I just use Polaris chain lube, my dealer had it on sale so I bought 4 cans. Don't use WD40, it will dry out the O-rings. Anything that is safe for O-rings should be OK.
Almost forgot about the valve clearance. It should be .006 on intake and exhaust (that's what the manual says for 2000, should be the same for 2002). It's not a bad thing to do every year, exhaust is easy to get to, intake involves taking some parts off. Not a hard process, just time consuming on the intake.
Check your PM.
