back firing threw carb

ok here i go...i have a 87 polaris cyclone 250...well when i brought it home it didnt run..well i reringed it and got it running...well this bike didnt have a air box at all and when i got it running and the carb was ozing gass.... come to find out that the piece of the carb that holds the floats was broke...so i had a old carb laying around the garage not sure what kind it is i think it came off a 80cc not sure but it is a mik which was on it... so i got it running with it...and it ran pretty good but no airbox or air filter...so instead of buying one i fabericated one and bought the air filter for it...well got it all tight and the filter it and it acted like it wanted to start but couldnt .. well took a couple more turns and it backfired really bad back threw the carb...fire and all...so with the info i gave u can u maybe give me alil help[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

lol 95sport400, thought the same thing. Well, I would have to say, use th parts designed for the Cyclone. If you're going to use parts you think fit, then that could be the problem. Invest in the right parts and spend your time riding instead of guessing.

If both carbs are the same Mikuni VM round slides, take all the jets - including the needle jet and jet needle - out of the one that was on the quad and put them in the other carb.

never thought of doing that il have to give it a try....now i did have a airbox made out of thin sheet metal and uses a short rubber boat and the airfilter that was made for that bike..i noticed also gas on the airfilter alil ....the old carb before it broke over flowed with gas everytime ...maybe after i change all that back on maybe it could be outta time?

ok i tryed it but still havin the same problem....but i noticed that my air box was soaking up with gas....so i took the filter off started it and it was flowing gas out the carb...so let me guess its either the main,floats, needle, or pilot jet? any one have something like this happen on a 2 stroke?

mabey needle and seat, this allows the correct level of fuel in the float bowl in the carb so if it is stuck open then gas will flow out
