i took my old 500 to the dunes it was a little down on power but it didn't do to bad. whatever you do do not put paddle masters on it they work terrible, thats what i used and regreted it.

My scrammy 500 goes to silver lake sand dunes here in michigan a couple times a year. It does pretty well for a 530lb quad. I prefer to ride my banshee on the dunes but the scrammy is still fun to run around on out there. I bought my sand stars on my first trip out and they work pretty well. If I could do it over I would buy skat trac haulers.

Thanks for the replies. Looking for a new quad for the wife who doesn't want to shift. Prefer something in a 4-stroke cause of the various altitudes we ride. The 250 just don’t cut it at the dunes, but still fun.
We usually hit buttercup or gordens well .

I ride my scrammy at Sand Mountain Nevada all the time. A couple things you will need to do is a clutch and a pipe. I have the Whit bros. and love it! I also put on a Dalton clutch kit and like that also. Go with the sand star tires, they do really well. There is some pics of us out there in my pics file but the good ones arn't up yet

last July me and a couple of friends went down to little sahara. my wife rode her 500 and my friends ride other polaris' . We all used sand stars they are an awsome tire loved the heck out of them. My wifes 500 gets around pretty good she usually kept it in four wheel drive most of the time. it was our first time there and she didnt want to get stuck.

I rode a friend of mines 500 2 wheel drive scrambler and I did pretty good. There were times it didn't have the power to make it up some dunes but if you got a run at it it would make it up almost anything around 100 ft tall.

my brother and i ride alot at sand lake and he really enjoys the versatility of the 500. it cant eat the steep stuff as well as i do, but he motors along quite well. he has sand gecko paddles and i have skat trac haulers. i like the haulers better then the gecko but the geckos are cheaper. the geckos seem to do better in the tight trails.(cornering). as for your wife- a 500 has usable power for all people, man or woman. if she wants it faster theres plenty of economical mods you can do to get more power out of the 500. i have a 400 scrammy and enjoy the pop out of 2 stroke. 4 stokers are just as fun, its all in what you want!!!! enjoy and good luck searching!!!!

I have a 2004 500 scrammy and the guys I ride with both have fully modded 400 scrammys. We have never had a problem in 2 wheel drive. On a couple of harsh inclines I put mine in 4 wheel drive just so I don't flip it. The one 400 has almost bald tires on the back and still goes right through it. The dunes we ride are at the bad lands in indiana.
