Default ETC problem

I've got a 1993 Polaris 2X4 250cc 2-cycle that has for the most part been bullet proof since I bought it two years ago. I just ride it. I don't jump tall buildings, ford wide rivers or bury it in huge mud bogs. It has always had a finicky reverse overide switch. Sometimes you have to hold down the button no matter what rpm or speed you were backing up. This condition now appears to be permanent. Now it has developed a new condition that I believe could be related but do not know how to troubleshoot it. The tiny micro-switch on the throttle that is connected to the ETC kills the ignition when the throttle lever is allowed to return completely to its stop. If I keep just a tiny amount of pressure on the lever to keep the switch open, everything runs fine. The situation definetely makes riding a bit clumsy and it is pretty much impossible to hold the throttle on, push the reverse override button and shift the lever into reverse at the same time which means I have to restart the machine with my finger on the override with it already in gear. Anybody know what circuitry I need to be tracing or parts needing replacement to overcome this problem? Thanks!

Adjust the throttle cable. This will open the contacts up.

Now why the heck doesn't it bother to mention that in the silly repair manual? It offers all of two sentences concerning the purpose of the ETC and from then on it's existence is purely magical. I'll give the adjustment a try. Thanks for your input! -Mark

Got any clues on the reverse over-ride deal? Should I just replace that module on the electrical panel and hope that's all there is to it?

Do you have a favorite parts vendor? I've placed a couple orders through Ronnie's. Just nickel and dime stuff. Going to my local Polaris dealer gets me odd stares for actually still operating a machine they consider ancient. It's only a 93 for gosh sakes! Then they kindly hand me a can of lard and tell me to bend over when I actually place an order. They soaked me double for what a pair of front struts should have cost. Not I scour ebay and the web but it still seems to be crapshoot.
