02 sportsman 500ho belt
I'm real new with atv's. I have a polaris sportsman 500 ho 2002 with 170 miles or 45 hours so the speedo says. The belt is trashed on it. How hard is it to change the belt on it. Some of the other posting I have read said to roll the belt off the back clutch???? Should I go back with the factory belt or is there something better out there?????

The belts are very easy to change. It's just a little time consuming because you have to unbolt the floorboard and pull the PVT cover off. Once those are off, just pull up on the belt. This will cause the belt to descend between he sheaves. You will then have some slack to roll the belt off the front pully.
Polaris sells a maintenance kit that includes a new belt, a complete oil change kit, a spark plug, and a new rubber gasket for the PVT cover. This kit sells for $59 and is a good deal. The belt alone typically costs $39. Their 0W-40 oil goes for $8 a quart. And their proprietary oil filter is like $10, or thereabout.
