Default front drive "differential" in 04?????

I got to looking at some diagrams for my 700 and it looks like their is a one way clutch in the front drive....must me a new design to let the outside wheel spin faster during turns while in 4 wheel drive??....Not to sure I like it. Looks like something that is going to cause problems down the road...Oh well.. if it does I'll get an 03 front drive for it..that'll fix its ****....I dont know how many people reading this are automotive technicians but I must say Im not real impressed new great designs our fine engineers come up with. It seems as though polaris is trying to duplicating what the auto manufacturers are doing..Adding a bunch of Sh%$t you don't need to increase repair costs and demote reliablity, all while telling you its some great feature that you cant live without ... Just like cars..everything is F#$g stupid. lets put a body control module in to run your dome light and modules in each door for power windows all linked together..Absolutly brilliant..so when my dome light gets stuck on now in my new car instead of having to replace a $5 door switch. I now have to buy a $400 BCM if i ever want my dome light to work ...looks to me though large companies have figured out way to bend the consumer over again and fatten their pocket some more.....but what to I know Im just a dumb consumer buying into all these great new features that is going to make my life so much easier...LOL.

Maybe if all the new technolgy of todays ATV's is too much for you, then you should find your self an old Honda ATC90 with points because I would hate to see the CDI give you any problems. All the features on todays ATV's are brought to the market by consumer demand for more features and higher performing ATV's.

I can diagnose and repair the most difficult automotive /electrical/mechanical problems...The point Im trying to make is that manufacturers are incorporating design techniqes that cost the consumer more to maintain over time. Dont get me wrong I love jumping into a pickup and at the push of a button the seats mirrors and settings are all right where i set them. Its just the fact that I know in 10 yrs I will be really surprised if all of these neat features are still going to be functioning. However if I was one of those "keep it for 2yrs then get a new one" kinda guy or if I had money falling out of my ****, then that wouldn't be an issue...

Well guess what....I was saying that the new front drive on the new polaris's looks like peice of crap design...and mine is already having problems....was riding last night and its stuck in 4 wheel drive. It wont disengage. Also I noticed that the stub end of the front axle shafts are sloppy loose where they clip into the front drive. Maybe this is just my machine?? Anyone notice their's being loose?.... I would have to say I am really dissapointed with this atv.. I have purchased 3 other new polaris atvs and had zero problems and put thousands of miles on them. I think polaris pushed this 700 out to early. I dont think enough testing was done.

The 04 IS a simpler design. Instead of having seperate overrun clutches in each hub as in the past, they have one in the front diff. It functions exactly the same way the old hubs do.

You might be low on fluid, either way, changing it isnt a bad idea.
Polaris, as far as I know, hasnt had a differential in the front on any machines. They are all spooled, and have no variation in wheel speed side to side. They moved the electric hubs, from the ends of the axles to the center section, for a few reasons. If you still have a warentee left, have the dealer check it out, if changing the fluid doesnt help.

The 04' doesnt have spider gear as in a regular differential but it does have a one way clutch. It has to have the one way clutch other wise it the atv would steer like it was in 4wd all the time. The older design with the locking hubs would allow a spool because the power is dissenged at each wheel. This new crappy design has full time hub/axle engagement. After doing some research this seems to be a pretty common problem and Ive not seen any solution..
