Default weird electrical prob

2004 Sportsman 500 HO, we were out riding last weekend and my digital display kept "resetting" itself...... just as if the key had just been switched on. then it would work for 1/2 a second.. go blank for 1 second... and repeat the display resetting over and over.
After 2 hours of it repeating, the diplay would spend longer and longer intervals with nothing.. zilch... nada... and by the end of the ride i had no display at all... (and even worse no 4wd)..
Battery is fully charged... tried that... still starts like everything is perfect,....
just dunno what happened to the display in the headlight pod..
anyone else have a similar prob????
Thanx in advbance for your help

Default weird electrical prob

sound like a lose connection, open up your pod and look for a loose connector, check the harness too.

Default weird electrical prob

I had sort of the same problem last week. My display went dead when I turned my low beam lights on, I turned them off and my display would come back on. The next morning my display was dead and would not come on. In the service manual it said to check current between pins 1 and 8 then 2 and 8 on the speedo connector. If there was 12 volts on both replace the speedo, if not repair wiring. It turned out to be the latter and after alot of looking it was a faulty circut breaker (they are under the front plastic in the black bags that are sealed on the wires). I just checked the current in and out of the breakers to find which one was bad. Then the technical part......I nailed it with a screwdriver handle 5-7 times and it started working again. Haven't had any trouble since. The only difference from your problem to mine is that when my speedo went dead my starter wouldn't work either. I would test the pins on your speedo first. Pin 1 is red, Pin 2 is red with white stripe, Pin 8 is Brown. This must be done with the key on.

Your close enough,,,you could've just called me on the phone...LOL

Got it fixed!

Thanx Krank for the info... helped to figure wich way to go looking... had to disassemble most of the headlight pod to trace the brown wire... it had snapped somehow or other.... no ground = no display...
also big thanx to "Anywhere Tom" (another member here)...
He's the one that had all the equipment and the right stuff to fix it for me!
