Default Swing arm Problems(scrambler)

has anyone ever heard of someones swingarm cracking on one side? I was out on mine tonight and I noticed that on the right hand side of the swingarm had a big crack. Do you think it would be a good Idea to weld it or get a new one?

Depending on where the crack is(if not on an area where a bushing is, which would be up near the gearcase or near the grease fitting below) then I would weld it......it is fine to weld them, heck that is how they are built......just make sure you get it back to normal positioning if you can, otherwise you will have problems with chains.......Also now is a good time to make sure your swing arm bolts are tight....jack it up, under the skidplate(not on swingarm) and wiggle the rear end back and forth.....if play try to tighten it up, if can't tighten....need new bushings.....

I had a 99 500 that also had a cracked arm.It was on the left side underneath at the crossbrace.Polaris replaced it even though the bike was out of warranty.

Mine happened about a year and a half after I got it.The local dealer talked to polaris. All they wanted to know was if the bike had been wrecked, what kind of condition it was in,and a few pics to verify what they were saying.Had a new one in less than 3 days.

Well thats what I'm gonna do. I will talk to my dad and see if they can do something. I dunno if they will be able but it's worth it I guess. A new one is worth over 300$. Maybe I will just get it welded for the weekend because I really want to go riding. Thanks again Pro rider

Dads '97 400 Sportsman cracked one when the *&^%$ that stole it rolled it down a hill and stuck it in a tree. We welded a piece of 1/4" plate over the crack for reinforcement and it has held up for a few months with no trouble.
If you're not comfortable with welding it you could save some $$$ at a salvage yard. There was one on E-Bay a little while ago that went for about $65 too.
