Default split brake conversion

im thinking about pulling the brake line that comes from the front junction block to the back caliper, then plugging the hole in the caliper and the junction block.i was originaly thinking of adding a junction block in the back and using both brake lines to the rear caliper but then id have to get a line made for it..what do you guys think of my new idea?

Default split brake conversion

I've wanted to try this, it seems like it would be the same setup as a quad with a clutch.

My foot brake doesn't work though it has fluid and all I havn't been able to figure it out yet. The rear brake still works, as soon as I figure out why it isn't working I was planning to do this.

I've done it to mine but now I've removed the entire rear brake system for
weight reduction. It was not too hard to change around. I could lock the
rear brake up pretty easily. You will have to go to a NAPA store to get
the right fittings but you will be able to reuse the line that came from the
junction to the rear caliper. A tube flaring tool was the most expensive
thing that I had to buy. I think it was around 20 dollars.

i have fitting kicking around and also the flaring tool but the way i wanna do it i wont need to use the line comming from the junction block, all i will need is 2 plugs 1 for the rear caliper where the line goes to from the front and then 1 to plug the junction block..

Default split brake conversion

So you will have just the front brakes with the lever and just the back brakes with the pedal, right?

Default split brake conversion

I have a 2003 trailblazer, and I separated my front and rear brakes by pluging the junction block with a 3/16 line plug, and I removed the entire steel line and rear flex hose. the steel line is riveted to the top frame rail. a little surprise I didn't expect, and I made a small aluminum spacer to fill the spot on the caliper the flex hose was bolted to. The spacer is the same diameter both inside and out as the end of the flexhose, complete with a small flat spot where the two lines touch, and I made it the same thickness as the original hose, and the banjo bolt with the seals I re-used. I was going to disassemble the rear caliper, and pull the one "o"-ring from inside that divided the two circuits inside the caliper, but I tried it without doing this and it works fine. I have no regrets, and it can easily be reversed if needed.
Good luck!

Default split brake conversion

A mechanic that lives near by just got a copper rivet, used for leather work, and slipped it in the line right at the rear caliper. No leaks cause the copper is soft and will provide a good seal. Quick and painless.
