Default 4x4 in reverse for a scrambler..

I first appoligze for my ignorance.. I just purchased a used 99 scrambler in fairly nice shape.. my question is this. While The 4 wheel drive works great in forward I notice that when I put it in revers the ABS light goes out on it.

is 4x4 not suppose to work in reverse? or is there something else that i'm suppose to do to get the 4x4 to work in reverse? thanks.

No it won't work in reverse. Ask BBS to help you out. He told me to hook two wires together and it worked.

ah so from the factory it doens't work in reverse.. but you can "jerry rig" it to work in reverse? would this do any damage to the quad? if it's not meant to work in reverse?

No it will not hurt it. Just hang on, or you will go over the bars. I did it on mine, and it helped out alot. Pm big bad scrambler, he will let you know what to do. He also did it on his.

I found an old post that tells how to hook the two wires together.. so this will make it so it works in reverse and the switch will control it all the way around i'm assuming.

and thanks guys!

This is how you get rid of the reverse override on the scramblers. Open up the front nose piece. There you will find a rectangle rubber female spade connector. There is 2 of them. The one you want is the one with the grey wire with an orange stripe. Unplug that wire from the connector (REVERSE OVERRIDE IS NOW GONE). Now to get it so the 4x4 works in reverse is a little more difficult but it is easy. Look at your reverse override button. The wires you want are the grey wire with a white stripe and a red wire with a white stripe. See where they come down in the nose piece. Take a little bit of the insulation off of each one. Now take a wire and splice it between both wires. Tape them up good. TADA you now have 4x4 and no revlimiter when in reverse without having to push in the button VERY HANDY. Your reverse light and the AWD still work like normal too

Your 4 wheel drive will work in reverse as long as you are holding in the reverse override button by the left handgrip. If you don't want to have to hold in this button then you can bypass it by doing the wiring as BBS had expalined.

cool beans thanks! So if I leave the rev limiter hooked up and do the other mod i'm assuming it 4wheel will still work in revers.. but you'll have to hit the button if you want to go faster.
