I have two Garmins....I have the eMap and eTrex Vista....I use the Vista for hunting, the eMap has a larger display, so I use it on the ATV

 

are they very expensive, I would like to have one cause were suppose to start going up north and down to west virgina this summer, plus it would be nice to get an accurate speed to with the larger tires.

 

they have alot of new units in color, if you don't need color, you can pick one up for a fair price, especially units like the eMap which Garmin doesn't produce anymore....

most of Garmin units use a software program which is called Mapsource. You can download 7.5m topographic maps directly to the unit, as well as metroguide which gives you all the roads and streets, as well as restaurants, gas stations, phone numbers, etc., alot more than i listed. You can also load roads and recreation data. I have all the disks.

You can also download firmware updates for your garmin with the computer interface cable, so if there are any changes to the unit you download them for free from garmins site. I have a Dell Latitude Laptop mounted in my truck, when I go on a trip, I load mapsource and have the GPS connected, that way I have a 12" map. It won't be a moving map, but the arrow that represents where you are will move, works great for traveling.

Do a search on ebay for the units, I may get a color one this time, helps out hunting as i can see the culture features as they are represented on the 7.5m topo maps....but not really necessary.
