Default Best winch

What would be the best overall winch for a 2004 Magnum 4x4? The uses will be plowing, trails and hunting. And last best place to buy?

Thanks

I have a superwinch, the 3000# model. They cost a bit less than the Warn's, but i will say that the Warn's operate a little nicer (wind up neater), but the Superwinch can pull really well. With a winch, there arent too many different sides to shape your choice. The Warns have a mounting kit that Polaris distributes, so you can be guaranteed a good fit with the Warn (i had to modify my mount a bit to get it to work with my polaris brushguard).
So i think the mainstream choice with polaris is the Warn, but i have yet to have a problem with my superwinch.

Superwinch is made by Chicago Electric. I bought a 2000lb Chicago electric winch from harbor freight. The same winch that superwinch offers. It cost me $50. And if you go to a place like dennis kirk or rocky mountain atv the same winch cost $250. I have used it many times and it pulls like crazy. I cant see spending 300-400 on a warn when you can get one much cheaper that will do exactly the same thing. When I go riding with my friends that all have 600-700sp's they like to hit the deep mud. Well, they get stuck and I get to pull them out.The winch works great. Best 50 I have ever spent. I even went a step further and got the Amsteel synthetic winch line so I now have 100 ft of line instead of the 50ft heavy cable. It does not kink, rolls nice, good on the hands(no freyd line) and I can double the spool of line.

I have a warn 2000lb that has given me no problems to speak of...My buddy has a superwinch and it has been great for him as well. I would go with whatever you can get the best deal on. If I were you I would follow up on 2manytoys post and look into harbor freight .

Will the winch on harbor frieght fit on the 99 sport 400? And will the electrical system handle it? Can you get a roller lead to fit on it? I do like the idea of having a winch just incase. I havent needed it yet but you never know.

Thanks,

The winch will firt on any winch mount made for your 400. It mounts just like any other winch. I also got my roller fairlead from ebay for $20 new. I will try to get pics of my setup. There is only one company that makes a winch mount for my 330 but I think many more companies make them for the sports and scrammys. Even though the winch is not a warn or a ramsey it works just as well.

I have the warn 2.5ci winch with roller fairlead and handlebar mounted switch. I got it to lift the glacier blade for the winter. operated very nice and the line goes back in without kinks. I got a hell of a deal on the winch and plow system at my local polaris dealer, installed for $725 including tax.

I found that www.rcsoffroad.com has the warn winches very cheap with free shipping. you can get the 2.5ci for $308 and get a complete warn plow system with the warn 2.5 winch for $689, and if you email them at customerservice@rcsoffroad they will send you an email back with a coupon code for another $10 off your purchase.

oh ya by the way RobRuf, welcome to the forums. let us know what you end up with K. if your not going to be bothered by having an orange winch with an offbrand name, try the winch from harbor freight and see if it works for your needs. for $49 you can't beat it and if it doesn't work for your quad you can always mount it on a trailer or something.
