changing sportsmans carb jets for winter ??
Guys:
The last couple of years I've tried using my sportsman 500 or 600 during ice fishing, I've always struggled to get it running or keep it running. I've seen a couple times over the years on this board about a "cold weather" update available at polaris that would make life easier in the winter. Another post mentioned getting a new carb jetting with a new slide spring, and that it was an update that all 02, 03, and early 04's should get, otherwise I'd be running lean. What more do you guys know about this? I now see in my manual about the standard jet size in the machine normally, and a different size for temperatures under 40 degrees. I also think I saw something about this on a sticker under the seat area. Anybody done this yet? What's all involved with changing a jet, pretty simple, or could I screw some stuff up bad in regards to carb settings? Thanks.

Usually rejetting is done after a filter and/or exhaust change...Are you running stock??? If your running stock then you could just adjust the needle setting..I think usually they are on the third notch...You could move it to the fourth of fifth notch...it would allow just a little bit more gas and make it a little bit more richer but that might help in the winter months.
