Default No reverse

My dads 00 Sportsman 500 has some reverse problems. He shifts into reverse, the light doesn't come on in his pod, but he does drive in reverse. His rev limiter doesn't kick in so he can go full boar in reverse without using his override button, but he also doesn't have 4 wheel drive in reverse. So he gets stuck when he needs the 4 wheel reverse. Since the machine doesn't recognize that he is in reverse it won't do what it should do. There are two switches that the machine uses to tell what gear he is in. Should I replace one of these switches? Which one? Or should I start somewhere else? Please help!!!

I think I read in another post that there is a switch that has to make contact when you pull it in reverse it might not be making connection or went bad.

But do you know which switch? There looks like there are two of them, one with 4 wires and another with 3 wires. Do you happen to remember where you read the other post?
