Sportsman 800 3,000lb Winch help!!!
ELP:
the mechanical break comes already installed on all winches that warn sells currently, it keeps the line from spooling out under load.
and the 05 machines are prewired, just not as wired as you'd think. its more so, set up, and thought out, as all you have to do is connect some wires, mount the solinoid and mount the winch.

Basically the 'pre-wire' means that there is a power and ground cable already installed in the machine from the factory and there are 'ignition' hot wires under the access cover under the headlight pod.....and there is a plate installed in the front right fender for the contactor.....thats it.....it saves you some time, but Polaris saying that the winch installs in minutes is somewhat true....about 120 minutes...
Anyways, I would cut out the front plastic, I think the visual of the enclosed winch is better....it does something that is also really good, it keeps mud and dirt off of the winch when it is behind the cover....

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
Hey Dave, are there instructions where those wires (power, ground, ignition) are? I'm mechanically inclined, and can probably find them now that I know they exist, but just wondering if instructions exist to make the install easier. Same with the contactor plate.
Thanks again man, and happy new year.

JC....the wires are run along the frame, there is one that connects to the battery....the positive side....it should be on the frame on the left side...look from the back....next to the battery....the front of the wires is located under the front access cover, in front/under the headlight pod.....
the contactor mount plate is in the front right fender, look inside the wheel well and you'll see it up there....
I have the instructions scanned, give me your email and I'll send them to you....
