It seems that the SP800 people are skirting around the issue, not as bad as the KQ guys do but in my opinion they still are. Can it stay with a BF? I wanna know because I love the way the SP800 looks and I love the wheels and the storage. But I don't want to buy one if it's like the KQ, SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I bought my KQ, I posed the same question to KQ owners and they would make statements like, "it's fast enough for me" and "buy a sport quad if you're interested in drags" or "it handles great" blah Blah BLAH!!!!!! Yeah great, but some people, like me, want a 4x4 that wheelies and runs like a sport quad, they want the fastest utility quad available because anything less is just that. So, let me ask the tough question, will the SP800 stay with a BF in a drag? Or a P700?
If both were set up with same tires, I think they would be close, but I have not raced a BF yet. In the woods there is no doubt the 800 would keep up. In fact I think the BF would be the one trying to catch up. The 800 handles that well. So if your just into dragging, I think the BF would be your best bet.

Cam650,

Yes the sp800 is fast as hell, I have drag raced all quads(utility-in it's class) other than the BF & humiliated all of them. As I said earlier the 04-sp700EFI was the only one to stay within 10 quad lengths of my 800 in a 1/4 mile race. If speed is what you need in a utility quad then the BF or the SP800 are the only 2 you want to look at. My friends brother just got his BF & he wants to race, I will let you guys know the results when we do.

10 lengths is a bit much, but u may be right. the storage is flat and very poorly designed on the sportsmans. i cant say any other storgae is great either, except bombardier traxters. i bet the prarie 700 would easily run with the 760

Cam I can tell you from draging the 800 last saturday at the dunes against a stock twin peaks/prairie700 the 800 runs real strong but not strong enough to beat a totaly stock Twin peaks. It was fair race since the twin peaks also had a heavy set of vision wheels and bighorn radials on it. For a plush ride the 800 is the best, for a sporty ride the Prairie will run circles around it. I can say that I think the SP800 is faster then the KQ and feels more stable to me, Its just not possable for an IRS to handel as well as an SRA.

10 quad lengths is about 65-70ft & yes it is that bad, and if it were a mile it would just be worse.

Thanks cc1999 and GE4x4, you have always proven to be very trustworthy and I sincerely appreciate your input.

cc1999, can you elaborate on the aforementioned race between the p700and the SP800 please...

MAN, that 70 horsepower figure is just big rumor. Dynojet just made a map off my 800 for the power commanders. Stock my quad put out 34.4 to the rear wheel. With the mapping I got 36.3, just one tenth more than the brute force. You get 100% horsepower at 25 mph and it falls off at about 60 mph with a top speed of about 68 mph. On the street, it should pull 72 or so. This is what the dyno sheet shows. The 800 does have a lot of power, but.................the quad surely isn't 70 hp................UNLESS you meant 70 miles per hour, then you would be correct!!!

We raced 8 times about 200 yards up a slight grade and down a slight grade and at no point was the SP800 ahead of my buddys twin peaks. There were a some races closer than others but at the end the twin peaks finished 2 to 4 quad lenghs ahead of it. we both were racing in 4wd. It maybe different on hard pack but in sand these were the results. I have Dyno number on my buddy's Twin Peaks and all of my 650 and up quads I am planing to get some dyno numbers on the sp800 for comparison in the very near future.

Some one said somthing about puting anything on the racks, well anything but a flag, polaris forgot to put a flag mount on it. Just FYI, not realy a problem unless you ride someplace that requires it.

Default Unbiased polaris 800 power?

Hey thanks vegasdude, that explains the race results cam. My buddy's stock Twin peaks Dyno's @ 32.5 HP. My twin peak's 700 dyno's @ 38.2hp with all its modds and fine tuning, my Prairie Dyno's @ 33.2 hp with all its mods and fine tuning. If I were to assume my SP800 totaly stock is also 34.4hp its only got the stock twin peaks by 1.9hp but weighs alot more and Polaris uses slightly milder bottom end clutching than the Prairies. The Twin Peaks got my sp800 out of the hole every time and lacked the power to run him down once we got rolling.
