I don't plan to insure mine, since I only plan to use it around irrigation canals (at low speed) for now, which is hardly dangerous. Plus don't plan to lend it to anybody. On the other hand, it's an $8K+ machine. My motorcycle has full coverage, but it's a street machine, and twice as expensive. I have perfect driving record, by the way. Obviously, I'm new to this sport, if you can't tell. And I HATE insurance companies.
I'd like to hear comments from smarter people than me, which is pretty much everybody else <he he>.
If you have it insured, could you please mention your state, insurance company, premium, deductible, coverage (comprehensive, etc), and term (6-months, year)? I know it dramatically changes from state to state, and based on age, driving record, etc., but at least that would give us a basic idea. I don't think any of my currrent companies insure ATVs, so it'd have to be a 3rd company.
Thanks for contributing.

I insure with AllState for only 179$ a year ... thats cheap for my $7000+ machine ... I already had a payout on my last 2004 sportsman, i was only going about 10 to 15 miles per hour when i got knocked off and the machine when over a hill and hit a tree, it was totaled! IMO insurance is cheap and you never know when you'll need it.

I had to use mine on the last sportsman (AllState).
All i had to do was take it to the dealer to get an repair quote and let the dealer fax it to the insurance adjuster ... they didn't come out.
But i will say i did take about 50 pictures of the damage and email them to the insurance adjuster.
I think taking all those pictures really helped in speeding the claim ... i got my check within 7 days.
A few of suggestions that my agent gave me after i called him ...
CALL ASAP, even if it's the weekend.
GET MEDICAL help if needed!!!
DON"T CLEAN the machine ... looks like you maybe covering something up.
GET IT TO YOUR DEALER ... makes them think you really care about getting it fixed, not just trying to scam.
If you can't get it to the dealer MAKE SURE it can't be damaged anymore ... leaving it out seams like you don't care about the machine.
PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES ... more the better ... and YES get some before it's all dirty and wreaked ... so you have an before and after.
DON"T DISASSEMBLE any damaged or good parts until the insurance has had their process followed.
GET ALL YOUR receipts together! ... the insurance adjuster wants to help you ... but he needs proof of costs to do his job.
GET ALL YOUR receipts together!!!!!! - everything from the orginal day one receipts to all the maintence costs, you want to show them you cared for your machine and followed all service scheduls.
The faster you can get the above to the insurance adjuster the easier it will be to get it fixed or totaled.
