What's wrong with my 97 Sportsman 500
I just bought this bike last week and when I'm riding it, sometimes I will floor it and it has lots of power but then all the sudden it will loose power and slow down like its starving for fuel or air. I did change the fuel filter and air filter and plug. What else should I look for?
Any help would be great, I am new to ATV and especially the Sportsman

I have a 97 Magnum 425. At one time I tried opening up my air box and the power just fell on its face. The carb on these machines have a vaccuum slider. It requires the airbox be completely sealed or it cannot make enough vaccuum to open this slider. It'll rev up just fine when in neutral and drive ok but when you attempt to open it up it'll fall on its face because it can't breathe. Check your airbox for any holes that should'nt be there that includes existing holes that were drilled or cut out bigger as well. It must be completely sealed, it does'nt take much to lose the vaccuum. Hope that helps.

Also, check to be sure the fuel tank vent isn't plugged. That will make it starve for fuel. The easiest way to check for that is to drive it with a heavy thumb, and wait for it to stumble. Stop immediately, and loosen the gas cap (engine off). If you hear a 'whoosh' the vent is plugged. Not all that uncommon, ATVs are ridden a lot in dirty conditions, and Polaris uses smaller vent tubing than most, making it easier to clog.
