Default Worn Cam?

I was just reading another thread about the 2000 sportsman having problems with the cam wearing causing the vehicle to be slugish at full throtle. I have a 99 6x6 big boss (500) that I just got back from the local polaris dealership. It was running rich so the dealership put a new needle in the carb and adjusted it. The big boss no longer runs rich and actually runs and idles really good. However, it is sluggish from 3/4 to full throtle. Is this still a carb problem or could the cam be worn? Also, is there any way to tell if it is a carb problem or a cam problem?

On a unit as old as yours that may have seen some real work, I would bet your problem is in your clutches more than anything. Worn out primary and secondary springs can give you the symptoms you are reffering to. If you look into it get a new belt if yours has got some time on it as well. From what I hear a worn cam will give you wierd popping and throttle response with low power.(almost like a rev limiter) Just what I've heard on here though. I'm no expert, but these are my guesses.

I did have the clutches, the belt and everything else replaced concerning the drive. All of the work was done by the dealer to the tune of about $1100.00. The rev limiter that you mentioned is exactly the sympton that it has. However, it does not pop or make any other type of wierd noises.

Unhook the rev limiter by finding the black wire coming from it and unplug it.This will disconect it but you will still need to hold the button for 4x4 in reverse.

Sorry for the last post. I checked my manual's wiring diagram and I found a speed limiter. Is this the same as a rev limiter?
